Overview
IMPERO uses traditional female handicrafts such as knitting, crochet, embroidery, and weaving, as resilient, forms of communication to transform ephemera into narrative, sometimes fantastic, sculpture and performance. An empire identifies itself through its unique cultural artifacts; the architecture, decorations, fashion, and art it leaves behind. These artifacts are the symbols of the empire’s power, and these have become the center of my research.IMPERO consists of five elements: The Emperor’s Cape, Arazzo, The Emperor’s Cubs, Territories and the Graveyard. Each of these elements embodies a different characteristic of imperialistic culture.
