Overview
The installation 4 Walls involves four split plasma screens on each of the four walls of the gallery. At delayed intervals, a woman is projected onto each screen giving the appearance that she is circling the room. Intent on arriving somewhere, she is unable to reach her destination because she is stuck in her synthetic dimension. She is a lost video signal, a corrupt digital file. While she clearly has an identity, she has no meaning. She represents the aimless virtual entity that has become part of the technological surplus of wandering bits and bytes of information. As the viewer is circled by this larger-than-life image, they are able to share in the woman anxiety by feeling both vulnerable to her presence and by identifying with her as a creature unable to reach its destination. She is a caged animal, circling endlessly, but unable to see what her destination is.
